Man word really got around about Stewie, huh
(I just realized that I am doing that moment-to-moment transition thing way too much in this chapter so far, whoops. Still figuring out more panel variety but I’m also a creature of habit)

That moment when you realize your friend is way cooler than you thought he was.
Oof
quick question, Does stewie have a brother or something?
Nope, he’s an only child.
Which is part of why he is not used to kittens
Wouldn’t that be undermined by the dream though? Considering that cats would spend most of its time sleeping (from what I can read kittens go a whole 20 hours a day asleep) not counting time dilation, and the fact that they don’t have to abide by strict family units. After all they would have to group them together for teaching at a very young age, and its in there best interest to have them as adjusted to others as possible.
I suppose this brings up the question of how kittens are raised in the dream, unless its already been dealt with in an extras.
That’s a good point, in that case he has dealt with kittens but like…when he was also a kitten back in Kitten Training, or the times he was in daycare. But never when he was at home.
As far as the raising kittens go it’s more human-like where there are set family units but like…more relaxed? Like they don’t care as much if someone adopted like 12 kids or someone’s on their second or third mate, or they have more than one mate at once. As long as everything’s mutual and they’re all taken care of correctly then it’s fine. For the cats it varies from family to family. Some are a lot like us and others are more how cats actually hang out but with a touch of the family unit thing
(for my own sake it’s still influenced by human stuff no matter what since it’s easier for me to write but that’s something I gotta look into)
Catching up on my kitties…
So how does the metaphysics of the place work? Like what species exsist in the Dreaming? There’s nightmares but how do they work? Like they only exsist as the ideas of other people so are they parasites that survive by getting their host to think about them as much as possible and thus give them lots of space and material to work with and breed by tricking the host into thinking of a single nightmare as many and since they’re ideas that’s how they become? What creature dreams the cat’s base? What ancient perpetually dreaming creature is there? Does it resent them for filling it’s dreams with bureaucracy? Why does the cat’s tech have physical forms such as that if it’s all in a realm where physical form is a result of the idea and function rather than the other way round as it(presumably) is in “reality”?
Oh god that’s a lot of questions, I’ll answer them to the best of my ability (while still avoiding spoilers)
– It’s more like the Buffer Zone where half the comic takes place is just that, a buffer between the various mini-dream worlds and the Waking World, a separate dimension in itself with the only dreaming going on is of their Waking World forms (which are only really linked to themselves rather than this one giant entity). A collective consciousness that formed this zone more than 80,000 years ago that started from a blank room in a void to the much more advanced version of it we have now
– The dreamworlds themselves are pocket dimensions that anything with enough sentience to dream can spawn (outside of domestic housecats). Like those dreams you have where you visit the same/similar setting over and over, that means this tiny world is still active and evolving with it’s own denizens (even if you only visit a small portion of that world in your dreams). And if a Monster destroys it, then the creature that spawned the dream just doesn’t visit that world again.
– Like if the dreaming creature was an MMO player that made a randomly-generated a map that encompasses the whole world, and the rest of the “players” are NPCs that continue on without them when they log out. They can log back into this map at any time (until a Monster/Virus corrupts and destroys it).
– Nightmares are more what the other creatures experience when the cats hop into their dreamworld and fight a Monster inside it, the Monsters don’t actively seek out to spook the dreaming creature. They just want to leech the energy of it and get stronger, and the denizens (and dreaming creatures) tend to get caught in the crossfire. Either that or the world was already a madhouse before the Monsters even spawned in there.
– The dreaming creature that spawned the world experiences it with a filter and are indistinguishable from the surrounding Denizens. So even the most lucid dreamer would see these cats running around attacking a monster and/or interacting with the world and just attribute it to dream weirdness. And the cats wouldn’t be able to figure out who the host of the dream is no matter how hard they try.
(They couldn’t speak the housecat language anyway so whatever is being said is gibberish on both sides)
– The cats are so adamant about protecting these universes and killing off the Monsters because if the monsters get powerful enough, they can get into the Buffer Zone, which means they’re only steps away from the Waking World (our world and where the housecats’s Waking Forms reside) and the cats can’t protect the Waking World if their real forms are in there.
– The mini-dreamworlds are generally weaker and much easier for the Monsters to spawn into, the resistance being stronger the closer a dreamworld is to the Waking World. (so something with like Jungle Squirrels is weaker than a world that features actual humans with superpowers, still technically a dreamworld but a couple degrees away)
– (yes, worlds from other series count as Dreamworlds, they’re just significantly stronger than the ones the portals usually send the cats to)
– I say collective consciousness spawned the Buffer Zone but the cats honestly have no idea what the true origins are. They know it was after housecats first domesticated themselves and therefore had more time to relax/sleep, and there’s lore about this one trio of cats that spawned first but it’s been lost to history. Collective Consciousness is just the general consensus.
– The cat’s Waking Forms are the closest possible match to their Dreamer Forms when a random WW kitten is a week old (old enough to dream) but either side can breed separately from each other otherwise
